At the Sedgwick Museum, we are committed to preserving our important collections for the benefit of our visitors. We believe that our collections should be available to anybody who wants to learn about the earth and its history. We invite you to get involved at the Museum by trying our activities and free events.
Twilight at the Museums
Wednesday 13th February 2008 4:30pm - 7pm
Bring a torch and explore six museums after dark. Enjoy a special family evening of torchlight trails and activities. This special evening is free, with no booking required, and open to all.
Bring your torch and discover what the dinosaurs in the Sedgwick Museum get up to after sundown. Become a Darwin detective and help us uncover some hidden connections in our collections.
Five other museums will be taking part in this special evening: Museum of Classical Archaeology (Sidgwick Avenue), Whipple Museum of the History of Science (Free School Lane), University Museums of Zoology (Downing Street), Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Downing Street) and the Scott Polar Research Institute Museum (Lensfield Road). All museums are located in Cambridge city centre and are no more than five or ten minutes walk from one another. Full details (including map) are available on our Twilight at the Museums page.
Curious Collectors

10am - 4pm
Hands on activities for families. Discover the stories behind collections of rocks and fossils with the Time Truck team in the Museum and the Watson Gallery. Find out about some of the famous collectors who helped build the Sedgwick Museum. Join in our new investigative art activity and create your own curious collection.
Suitable for all ages. Free, no booking required, just drop in. Please note that the art activity will not be running between 1.30 and 2.30pm during EarthTalk.
EarthTalk - Discover Darwin

Now in it's 4th year, the EarthTalk family conference returns with more back-to-back interactive short talks about fascinating new research going on behind the scenes at the Sedgwick Museum in the Department of Earth Sciences.
This year both talks relate to the ongoing development of our exciting new exhibitions about Charles Darwin's work as a geologist which will open in 2009. Come along, ask questions and get involved. Recommended for children aged 6 and over. Entry is free, but please ring or email to book in advance and guarantee a place.
